VATICAN – The Vatican claimed Wednesday that Pope Francis stressed during a recent trip to Kazakhstan that calling the crisis in Ukraine the Russia-Ukraine war is a mistake because it is a world war.

According to Vatican-affiliated news outlets, the Pope met with certain Jesuit priests during his mid-September visit to Kazakhstan.

According to reports, during the visit, the spiritual head of Catholics and Pope Francis delivered a statement to the Jesuit journal La Civilta Cattolica, and during the meeting, he discussed the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

One of them was the military official in charge of the prisoner swap announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and he inquired if anything could be done by providing a list of 300 detainees.

The Pope stated that he personally informed the Russian envoy of the situation.
